What have y'all been up to sewing-wise?

Today I attempted a janky curved seam for practice! This mainly consisted of me chanting, "Parallel to the tangent to the curve...parallel to the tangent to the curve..." to dubious effect. XD (Photographic evidence in comment to this post.)

I finally found some acceptable silk satin and sewed myself a silk pillowcase! I followed the Sartor Bohemia tutorial, which was a little confusing at times, but it worked out in the end and I really like the way it has a flap to cover the zip.

This fabric cost more than I really wanted to spend, but the colour is perfect for me, and my new pillowcase is making me so happy.

I’ve also been washing and folding and measuring and filing and documenting the fabric [personal profile] bob brought back from his recent trip to Australia (I will make it into shirts for him, though not any time soon since he currently has plenty of shirts). I was pleased to see that some of it was designed by Aboriginal artists, e.g. Water Dreaming by Juliette Nampijinpa Brown.

I find myself stroking it when falling asleep at night, so I do feel I’m getting my money’s worth :D

I’d recommend the tutorial overall, but not for a complete beginner — there were definitely parts where I think I’d have given up if I’d been less confident in my abilities.
